“Realize deeply that the present moment is all you ever have. Make the Now the primary focus of your life.” Eckhart Tolle
With all that goes on in our lives, it can be easy to fret over things we’ve done in the past, or feel anxiety about what is going to happen in the future. I have to work at this every day. Because I work at it — at trying to stay present in each moment — it has gotten much easier, and my life has a wonderful flow to it that I’ve never before experienced.
It is vital to pay attention to what is happening in the NOW moment.
There are many blessings that we are currently receiving, but that can tend to get overlooked if we are worried about what could be.
Put your focus instead on the people, situations, and things in your life that you are thankful for. A gratitude journal — or Happiness Jars, as pictured above — can greatly help you shift and maintain your focus. In my home, we try to write one thing daily that makes us happy, and put it in our respective Happiness Jars. From time to time, we take out all the pieces of paper and read them, reminding us of what makes us happy.
Whether you choose to use a gratitude journal or the Happiness Jars, let your intuition guide you. There is no right or wrong way to use these tools. You don’t have to write in the journal at exactly the same time every day for it to be effective. Consistency is important, yes. But what’s more important is how you feel about using the tool. If you feel guilty when you miss a scheduled time to use it, it loses its value to you.
Above all, stay grounded in the present moment. Any way you can.
With love and light,
Melissa
