Hi there, Fierce Lady!
You have a good handle on what triggers your anxiety and how it’s controlling your life. It’s time for you to stop going through the motions in life and start actually enjoying all you’ve created. You are so worthy and deserving of that. Pause for just a moment, take a deep breath, and appreciate yourself for all you’ve done, and all you do. I’m proud of you, and I’m so thankful for the energy you bring to this world. Now. Below are three specific tips / action steps to take to help you get the anxiety under YOUR control and start enjoying your life more. I didn’t realize how completely the anxiety had taken over my life. Until I decided I wanted to be in control of it and not have it control me. I began to see that it informed everything I did. How I parked my car. What clothes I wore. Which places I would go to. How I interacted with my children. How I interacted with men. How I handled my finances. Risks I wouldn’t take. Staying small. How could I have let it take over like that. And damn it was exhausting! I didn’t have any energy left over for what I really wanted to be doing. Now that I’m on the other side of that (thankfully!), I’ve thought about what steps I took — albeit unknowingly then — to begin to overcome the hold anxiety had on me. These steps are what I did before I used the tools I teach in my course, The Inspiration Specialist’s Guide to Overcoming Anxiety.
Step Number 1:
Enhance your relationship with God/Universe/All That Is.
I know, I know. That’s probably all you hear and see lately, right? Spirituality this. Law of Attraction that. I’m not suggesting that you become wrapped up in feel-good mantras and sage and that your life will magically become better. Not at all. (Mantras help and are a vital part of my mindset practice, but they are just a tool.) But what it really comes down to is using any tool at all that increases your faith that everything is working in your favor. Because it is. I know it may not feel that way right now, but it’s just a habit of thought. I promise. The anxiety energy seemed to force my thoughts down the what-if-horror path every time something didn’t go the way I thought it should. I didn’t understand then that everything is perception, and I have a choice to perceive every situation as working for my highest good. When I changed the story I told myself (using mantras and other techniques) I began to see evidence of the new story. So use whatever tool resonates with you to enhance your relationship with the Divine (whatever you call it), and build your faith muscle.
Step Number 2:
Start doing things that are on the edge of your comfort zone.
We hear about how life really begins outside our comfort zone, but what about those us who need to take baby steps? Because you know what? THAT’S OKAY! Actually, baby steps are the key to fast results. (Read that again.) So think about one thing that would be way out of your comfort zone and then decide to take one step toward it that is actually right on the edge of your comfort zone. Take that baby step right away. And keep taking it, until you’ve stretched the boundary of your comfort zone. This will expand your skill set in overcoming things that scare you and will give you a good kick of self-confidence. I believe in you.
Step Number 3:
Make a list of all the ways you’ve already been courageous.
It’s completely true that until we appreciate where we are we cannot move forward. You’ve done a lot of things in your life that took courage. They may not seem like a big deal right now, but that’s because you’ve already expanded your comfort zone by doing those things. Think back to the times when you were scared to do something but you did it anyway. Whether you wanted to or not. Make that list! Read it over and over again, and then as you take those baby steps on the edge of your comfort zone, add them to the list!
These steps will put you well on your way to begin overcoming the way anxiety rules your life.
