3 Quick Steps to Release the Fear

The biggest reason you feel fear is because it’s trying to clear out.

When we decide to go for something we want and fear rears its head, it’s not a sign that you should stop.  It’s not a sign that something is going to go wrong.  It’s not a trap!

It’s a sign that limiting beliefs and doubts are surfacing to be released.

That’s it.

So what can you do to help it along?

Make friends with the fear.

No, seriously.  Thank it for trying to protect you.  Have a good laugh with it! Think about it.  How many times have you looked back on a time when fear popped up and everything worked out just fine and you laugh at the thought of how you allowed fear to rule the roost?  It’s funny!! So laugh in the face of fear. No need to wait until it passes.

Consider what the opposite action is that the fear is telling you to do.  

Fear likes to try to guide us away from a perceived threat.  So when you, for example, want to change career paths, fear says “Hey now!  You’re fine where you are! It’s good enough! What if what you move to isn’t this good?!”  It makes you want to stay put.

Do the opposite.   In whatever way you can.  One small step, even.

*Obviously this excludes anything that involves physical harm.  Stay safe.

Decide to use the fear sensation as a trigger.

Most of overcoming fear involves mindset shifts.  The best way to implement those is choosing to view the fear as a trigger to think new, empowering thoughts about the fear sensation.  When it arises, remind yourself: “This is here to clear. I will do the thing I fear to clear it.” When you do this consistently for a long enough period of time, it will be automatic.  And clearing fear will actually feel fun!

We hear so often that everything good is outside our comfort zones.  That we have to be comfortable being uncomfortable. And while that’s exactly right, it’s also important to know that you can enjoy the dance between comfort and growth.
